2025 Sponsor Trip
Muraho, family! We would love for you to be part of our next mission trip! For sponsors, this is an incredible opportunity to meet your sponsored child in person, visit their home, and spend time with their family. If you are a supporter of the ministry and want to see firsthand how families are being supported and loved through BFR, mark your calendars for April 2025. On our trips, we focus primarily on 4 categories: building relationships, experiencing family, witnessing empowerment, and immersing ourselves in new cultures. It is truly a life-changing experience, and we hope you can join us! To learn more about what all that means, to sign up for the trip, or to join an info session, head to our Visit page.
Highlights
The children in all 4 branches recently returned to school after their holidays and have been provided with necessary school supplies. Most children have been promoted to the next grade, and those who took national exams performed well. However, a few students are repeating grades, and we continue to support them in their schoolwork. This past quarter, we also grieved the loss of a caregiver, and are counseling the child through this tragedy.
Our focus on discipleship has been so fruitful! Through our weekly devotions, children learn about the Bible, participate in worship, and develop a deeper understanding of faith in Jesus. We are seeing increased church attendance and personal spiritual growth among the kids and their families.
Our branch leaders continue to visit every single child’s family at least once a year in their homes, ensuring we can identify and address specific needs so that the children receive the necessary support, such as food, clothing, shoes, and home repairs.
We are also grateful to be able to provide medical insurance to children and their families through our focus on healthcare, ensuring access to the services they need. We also placed a strong focus on preventive health habits, teaching the kids about proper dental health and physical exercise.
In our July update we shared about our economic empowerment program beginning the next round with 40 caregivers (10 from each sector we serve) receiving a small business loan. We are excited to report that over the past 4 months, we have a 99% payment rate! Only one caregiver missed one payment. This is great news because it shows that their businesses are succeeding, and they are committed to this program so they can better provide for their families. We’re also excited to see the caregivers able to put money into savings, thanks to our savings groups. These communities are created for the purpose of encouragement, accountability, and financial growth, so the caregivers can each save a little each month.

Lucky Kalisa, a determined and brilliant young man at the Nyarugunga branch, is achieving great things in his education journey. He formerly lived in a poor rural village with his grandmother where he did not have many options for high-quality schools. It wasn’t until recently he reconnected with his father and moved in with him and was provided the opportunity for better schools. Lucky is no absolutely excelling, rising to the top of his class in Primary school. Due to his high test scores, he was awared a scholarship to a top secondary school. Despite a recent house fire that took away almost all they had, he is determined to make something of his future, and we are so proud of him.
